ABOUT US
Bass Patent Law strives to draft the highest quality patent applications and see them through the Patent Office in an efficient and effective manner. We thrive in learning the technical details of our clients’ inventions, including working with inventors to consider all of the elements of the invention and the different forms they may take. To this end, we try to expand the scope of the invention in ways that other firms may overlook.
Bass Patent Law’s founder, Tom Bassolino, was an engineer before becoming a patent attorney, and he has worked in both large law firm (aka “biglaw”) and boutique law firm settings. Tom’s experience has taught him that the product/service is what matters to clients. As such, Bass Patent Law aims to provide polished, detailed (yet broadly claimed), and intelligent patent applications to advance clients’ intellectual property needs and to enhance this critical facet of their business.
Bass Patent Law aims to charge reasonable rates for exceptional quality work. Therefore, Bass Patent Law maintains a truly modest overhead, while still providing a remarkable quality service to our clients.
Whether you have an established business or are launching a start-up, protecting your innovations will give you the competitive advantage you need to build your brand, secure outside investment, and take your business to the next level.

OUR FOUNDER
Tel: (202) 813-0789
Bass Patent Law was founded in 2018 by Tom Bassolino, a patent attorney specializing in patent preparation and prosecution. Tom’s practice includes drafting, filing, and prosecuting U.S., PCT, national stage, and international patent applications. Tom works with inventors, reviews invention disclosure statements, and investigates new product developments and design-around opportunities with entrepreneurs, engineers, and other technical staff.
Tom has worked with individual inventors and Fortune 500 companies alike located throughout the United States and worldwide. Tom’s experience includes preparing and prosecuting patents related to the mechanical and electrical arts including three-dimensional printing systems, green energy systems, pumps, drilling equipment, razors, stationery products, lighters, computer architecture systems, data networks, software, and business methods. Tom also has significant experience preparing and prosecuting medical device patents including orthopedic devices, MRI systems, ultrasound scanning systems, flexible stents, drug delivery devices, and novel cancer fighting systems.
Before founding Bass Patent Law, Tom worked in a boutique patent prosecution firm where he honed his craft by focusing on patent prosecution. Prior to his boutique law firm experience, Tom worked in the New York City office of Jones Day, where his practice involved patent prosecution, patent litigation, post-grant patent practice, patent portfolio due diligence, and the preparation of noninfringement, invalidity, patentability, and freedom-to-operate opinions for utility and design patents.
Prior to practicing patent law, Tom worked as a mechanical engineer for an engineering consulting firm in New York City where his work focused on the design of advanced plumbing and fire protection systems. Tom’s prior career as a design engineer is an asset in working with inventors and engineers in technical fields such as the mechanical, medical device, and electrical arts.
Tom’s large law firm foundation, boutique law firm experience, and previous engineering career provide him with a unique perspective in understanding the business goals as well as the technical details of his clients’ inventions.
Tom is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to the practice of law in Maryland, New York, and the District of Columbia. Tom is a member of numerous legal and engineering trade organizations including the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), the National Association of Patent Practitioners (NAPP), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
